Widespread deployment of commercial-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects will not occur before 2030, missing the 2020 target date set by the European Union by a decade or more, according to one expert.  That was the pessimistic opinion expressed by Walter Wintersteller, European utilities partner at law firm Booz & Co., during the European Power Generation Strategy Summit in Prague on Wednesday.  What’s more, he says, the technology is unlikely to become anything more than a niche sector, unsustainable without public funding.
