API HF1, Hydraulic Fracturing Operations -- Well Construction and Integrity Guideline (2009)

This guidance document, developed by the American Petroleum Institute, outlines current best-industry practices for the proper drilling and cementing of wells that are being hydraulically fractured. It is designed to ensure that shallow groundwater aquifers and the environment are protected throughout the drilling, completion and production phases of a well's life. This is the second of four documents API has been developing to address the increasing role of hydraulic fracturing to the nation's energy supply. A free PDF of the guidance document is available here. A hard copy may be purchased for $40 from www.api.org/publications.
