IOGCC Resolution 08.115 Requesting Funding for the Reclamation of Orphaned Well Sites
In October 2006, the IOGCC passed resolution 08.115 requesting funding for reclamation of orphaned well sites. The resolution was reauthorized and approved on November 18, 2008. The resolution supports Congressional actions that facilitate the plugging reclamation of orphaned and abandoned orphan well sites and urges Congress to provide necessary funds for the reclamation of orphaned well sites. The plugging of the nation’s orphan wells is a large financial burden on the states, which have excellent programs to address the problem and there is currently no federal financial support.
The IOGCC supports Congressional actions that facilitate the plugging reclamation of orphaned and abandoned orphan well sites and urge Congress to provide necessary funds for the reclamation of orphaned well sites.
